Cops: Teens on bikes robbing people in North Center

(CHICAGO) Chicago Police are cautioning North Center residents after a pair of strong-arm robberies earlier this month.

About 10:15 p.m. on Oct. 2, four teens riding 10-speed bicycles rode up to a person in the 3200 block of North Campbell and demanded their cell phone, according to a community alert from Town Hall District detectives.

They were between 17 and 19 years old, and one of their bikes was neon green, police said.

A week later, they made off with more phones in a similar robbery in the 3400 block of North Rockwell, police said.

About 10:50 p.m. on Oct. 9, three robbers between 16 and 17 years old—one of them on a silver road bike—carried out the robbery in a park, police said.

FBI offers reward for ‘North Center Bandit’

(CHICAGO) The FBI announced a reward Tuesday for information leading to the capture of a man dubbed the “North Center Bandit,” who is suspected of robbing three banks in about a month.

His most recent heist happened at 2:12 p.m. Thursday at the Chase Bank branch at 3339 W. Belmont Ave., when he handed a teller a threatening note demanding money, and made off with an unspecified amount of cash, according to the FBI.

Authorities think the same man robbed the Chase branch at 3335 N. Ashland Ave. on Aug. 27, and the PNC Bank branch at 4201 N. Lincoln Ave. on Aug 21.

He is described as a white man 25-35, between 6-feet and 6-feet-2 and 180-210 pounds, authorities said.

He hasn’t shown a weapon during any of the robberies, but the FBI warns he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Police: Two cell phone stores robbed at gunpoint last week

(CHICAGO) Police are warning businesses about a pair of armed robberies reported last week at cell phone stores on the city’s North and Northwest sides.

In both robberies, multiple people entered the stores and robbed them at gunpoint, according to a business alert from Chicago Police.

The first robbery occurred in the 1900 block of West Irving Park about 11:10 a.m. May 31, police said.

One of the suspects was described as a 25 to 30-year-old black man standing between 6 feet and 6-foot-3 and weighing 140 to 160 pounds, police said. He had dreadlocks and a dark complexion and was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, an orange construction vest jacket, a white hard hat and an air filter mask.

A second suspect was described as a 25 to 30-year-old black man between 5-foot-11 and 6-foot-2 who weighs 140 to 160 pounds, police said. He was also wearing a white hard hat, an orange construction vest and an air filter mask.

The second robbery, which involved three suspects, occurred about 7:40 p.m. on June 6 in the 1800 block of North Harlem, according to police.

The first suspect is described as a 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 black man between 22 and 26 years old, police said. He weighs 134 to 145 pounds, has dreadlocks and was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and a yellow construction vest.

The second suspect is described as a black male of a similar height and weight to the first, police said. He had a fade hairstyle and wore a yellow construction vest, a black T-shirt and dark blue jeans.

There was no description of the third suspect, the driver of the getaway vehicle described as a burgundy Dodge Durango with no license plate, police said.

Police investigating school burglaries in Uptown, North Center

(CHICAGO) Police are investigating two burglaries that happened after-hours at North Side schools in the past two months.

Both schools had electronics stolen and property damaged, Area North detectives said in a community alert issued Wednesday.

The first burglary happened March 16, at a school in the 2500 block of West Addison in the North Center neighborhood. Authorities believe the burglary happened between 1:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., police said.

In that incident, the burglars are described as four people who were riding BMX-style bicycles, police said.

Another burglary happened in the 4400 block of North Magnolia in the Uptown neighborhood, police said.

That incident happened between Friday and Monday over the Memorial Day weekend, sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 7:15 a.m., police said.

Police warn of North Center garage burglaries

(CHICAGO) Police are warning residents of the North Center neighborhood about a string of recent garage burglaries.

In four recent incidents, burglars stole property from garages, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

The burglaries happened:
• at an unknown time between April 3 and 7 in the 1900 block of West Roscoe;
• between 5:30 p.m. April 5 and 6:30 a.m. April 6 in the 1900 block of West Newport;
• between 7 p.m. April 5 and 8:30 a.m. April 6 in the 3400 block of North Leavitt; and
• between 6:30 p.m. April 16 and 8 a.m. April 17 in the 2200 block of West Melrose.
