K.T. McFarland to leave NSC for Singapore ambassadorship

K.T. McFarland, the one-time top deputy to ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn, has accepted the US ambassadorship to Singapore and will likely leave the National Security Council in the coming months, a senior administration official has told CNN.

“She is going to do it, assuming she gets confirmed,” the official said.

McFarland intends to continue working at the NSC in the short term, but the official said she is unlikely to stay at the NSC all the way until her confirmation, which could be months away.
“She isn’t leaving immediately,” the official said.

The official cast the move as a “promotion” for McFarland, but it has been well-known inside the NSC that her hold on the deputy job was tenuous.

CNN reported earlier this month that she had been offered the ambassadorship.

The official said H.R. McMaster, the current national security adviser, has not decided what to do about replacing McFarland, but acknowledged that Dina Powell’s role as deputy national security adviser for strategy “will probably expand.”

The internal politics of the National Security Council have been in flux since the firing of Flynn in February.

McMaster’s power inside the White House has been rising in recent weeks, proven by his orchestration of Steve Bannon’s departure from the National Security Council.

McFarland’s departure is no different. This means more power for McMaster and people he trusts, such as Powell, who moved over once McMaster took over.

Bloomberg first reported McFarland was going to leave the NSC.

A Chicago Alderman wants to offer $200 rebates as an incentive for homeowners to install exterior surveillance cameras. Theoretically, the cameras could then be linked to the city’s existing camera network. How would feel about giving Big Brother a good view of your front yard? President Barack Obama has lifted the arms export embargo on Vietnam, saying the decision is based on a desire to complete what has been a lengthy process of normalizing relations between the two governments. Obama, who is on a three-day visit to the country, says the U.S. will continue to analyze weapons sales case-by-case, but it won’t have a ban based on an ideological division between the two countries. The Chicago Fire Department on Friday rolled out its first ambulance outfitted to transport patients suffering from an infectious disease. The new equipment is a direct result of the city’s reaction to the worldwide Ebola scare of 2014.

McHenry High School decided to block a girl from walking with her class at graduation after she showed up in her Marine uniform. She finished school months ago and joined the Marines, but came back for graduation. The school says everybody has to wear caps and gowns, so she wasn’t allowed to participate. She said she knew about the strict dress code requirements but decided to show up in her dress blues anyway. That hasn’t stopped some of her outraged classmates from protesting on her behalf. Rules are rules, but this is a girl who worked to graduate early so she could serve her country. Isn’t that an example you’d want people to follow?

Can we just have a mulligan for the 2016 election? A new poll has Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump tied, but they also have the highest negatives in history.

Simpsons Actor Hank Azaria addressed the graduates at Tufts University over the weekend. He spoke as Chief Wiggum, Moe the Bartender, Apu, the Old Sea Captain and Comic Book Guy, with each character sharing a few words of wisdom for the new graduates.

A 70 year old man in Australia fought off a crocodile with nothing but spark plugs and a screwdriver. He was crab fishing with a friend when their boat capsized.

Donald Trump told CNN on Monday that the US will never default on debt because the government will just print more money. He went on to call himself the “King of Debt” Johnathan Hoenig the President of Capitalist Pig Asset Management joined John with a few thoughts on Trump’s economic theories. (Listen here)

The New York Times Magazine ran an article featuring White House Deputy National Security Adviser For Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes. The article suggested Rhodes and the White House lied to sell the nuke deal with Iran. Fox News National Security Analyst K.T. McFarland joined John with reaction. (Listen here)

A new poll says US military soldiers prefer Donald Trump to Hillary Clinton in the 2016 race by a margin of almost two to one. Of course, at the same time, more than one in five troops said they’d rather not vote in November if they have to choose between just those two candidates.

A man is facing hate crime charges in Scotland for posting a video online that showed a pug appearing to perform the Nazi salute in front of a screen depicting Hitler. The 28-year-old from North Lanarkshire was arrested for “publication of offensive material online.” He says he isn’t racist or pro-Hitler by any stretch of the imagination. His girlfriend constantly talks about how cute the pug is, and he wanted to do something that would definitely not be cute.

Ozzy Osbourn update: Monday he was missing and presumed intoxicated. He has since been located and denies falling off the wagon in the wake of his marriage difficulties.
