“Between the bad polling and the Van Dyke trial, I believe those are the two political reasons why he didn’t run.”

Big John and Ramblin’ Ray have NBC Chicago’s, Mary Ann Ahern, join the show to talk about Major Emanuel as they break down and understand the various reasons as to why Emanuel won’t be running again. Plus Mary Ann Ahern points out the signs that showed he wasn’t gonna run again before he publicly said he won’t be.

Chicago offers more $1 vacant lots to improve neighborhoods

CHICAGO (AP) — More Chicago property owners will have the opportunity to buy vacant lots for just $1.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Tuesday the city is expanding a program to sell vacant city-owned land to nearby property owners. About 4,000 properties will be available on Chicago’s south and west sides.

Emanuel says the program turns vacant property into “neighborhood assets.” He says it’s been driven by residents who want to strengthen their community “block by block.”

Many buyers have cleaned up the lots and turned them into gardens or other recreational areas.

Interested buyers must apply online. The applicant must own land on the same block, be current on paying their property taxes and not owe money to the city for things like parking tickets or water bills.

Parents hold pro-teacher rally on Mayor Emanuel’s street

(CHICAGO) On the eve of a possible Chicago Public Schools teacher strike, two dozen or so CPS parents and their kids took to the leafy North Side street where Mayor Rahm Emmanuel lives, and demanded he stanch the financial “bleeding,” the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

“The mayor has the power to avert a strike, and none of us here wants to see a strike, but we also know the teachers are fighting for what’s best for our children, and the mayor is holding up a settlement,” said CPS parent Erica Hade.

The mayor did not appear to be home. A Chicago police officer stood with arms akimbo on the sidewalk outside his house, while a crew of half a dozen men appeared to be building a new set of wooden steps.

“Mayor Emanuel, we’re no fools! If there’s money for developers, there’s money for schools!” the protesters chanted as they marched past.

“These cuts feel physically painful to us,” said parent Amy Ellison. “The village into which we’ve entrusted our children is in need of help, and Mayor Rahm Emmanuel is in a position to provide that help.”

Repeating a familiar theme, the protesters urged the mayor to divert surplus tax-increment financing funds to help needy schools.

Rahm Emanuel reimburses city $7,000 following Tribune investigation

(Chicago)  The Chicago Tribune has been keeping an eye on Mayor Emanuel's expenses and it has found more public funds spent on politics.

Not once, nor twice, but now three times the Tribune has caught Rahm spending your money on his political trips.

This time it’s $7,000 for bodyguards for his trip to the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This actually breaks a Rahm Emanuel promise he made two years ago, “I don’t think taxpayers should bear any cost for politics.”

And so the mayor’s campaign is reimbursing the city for this $7,000.  For the three cases in question, he has reimbursed the city for nearly $22,000.
